Sarah J. Maas
Best-selling fantasy author Sarah J. Maas plans to release two new novels in the ACOTAR series, marking her return to the beloved fantasy world after several years.
The American writer, whose books have sold over 75 million copies worldwide, shared the news during a recent appearance on Alex Cooper’s popular Call Her Daddy podcast.
Maas told listeners that the upcoming books form part of a larger storyline she has been developing for years. Sarah J. Maas explained that the narrative grew far bigger than she initially expected.
As she resumed writing, the story unfolded in surprising ways and quickly expanded into a complex arc. Maas decided to split the narrative across multiple books rather than confine it to a traditional trilogy.
The two upcoming novels will continue the ACOTAR series and are scheduled for release in October 2026 and January 2027. Sarah J. Maas also hinted at another installment to complete the overarching storyline.
A Larger Storyline Across Multiple Books
On the podcast, Maas described the new releases as segments of one massive narrative rather than standalone stories. She explained that the story divides into four main parts spanning three books.
The first two upcoming titles will likely become the sixth and seventh ACOTAR books. A fourth, yet-to-be-announced novel will conclude the larger arc.
Maas said she wants readers to experience the narrative as one sweeping story split into multiple volumes. Unlike traditional trilogies, each book will continue developing arcs rather than resolving major plot threads.
Her last ACOTAR novel came out in 2021, making the back-to-back publication of two new books an unusual move for the series.
The ACOTAR series has become one of the most successful fantasy franchises of the past decade. Maas blends romance with epic fantasy, creating a genre often called “romantasy.” She has helped popularize the category among modern readers.
Interest in romantasy has surged in recent years, especially on TikTok’s literary community, #BookTok. Fans frequently discuss fantasy romance titles, share emotional reactions, and recommend favorite characters and storylines.
Online discussions have expanded Maas’s global audience and fueled the genre’s popularity. Her novels now appear in over 40 languages and continue to attract new readers worldwide.
Although Maas released her first book more than a decade ago, her fan base grew dramatically during the COVID-19 pandemic, as readers turned to immersive fantasy series.
Beyond the ACOTAR universe, Maas wrote the Throne of Glass series, spanning eight books, and the Crescent City series, which includes three novels.
With the announcement of the new installments, fans speculate about which characters and plotlines will dominate the next phase. The releases promise to expand the magical world that has made Maas one of the most influential fantasy authors of her generation.
For readers waiting years for the next chapter, the return to the ACOTAR universe later this year ranks among the biggest literary events in the fantasy community.
