Reality television personality Teddi Mellencamp hospitalized news has drawn attention after the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star revealed she recently spent several days in the hospital due to a rare and dangerous medical condition. The health scare occurred while Mellencamp continued her ongoing fight against stage four melanoma.
The 44 year old media personality shared the details during a recent episode of her podcast Two Ts in a Pod, which she cohosts with fellow reality TV star Tamra Judge. Mellencamp explained that the frightening episode began with what she initially believed was a minor illness.
According to Mellencamp, she started feeling unwell for a few days and assumed she might have caught the flu. However, the situation quickly escalated when she woke up one morning to find her body covered in painful sores.
She described the marks as far more severe than a typical rash. Instead, they appeared as burning sores that spread across her entire body. Concerned about the sudden reaction, Mellencamp visited an urgent care facility, hoping for quick treatment.
Doctors immediately realized the condition was serious and advised her to go to the emergency room without delay. Medical professionals later diagnosed her with Stevens Johnson syndrome, a rare but life threatening disorder that affects the skin and mucous membranes.
Rare Reaction to Medication Led to Emergency Hospital Visit
Mellencamp explained that the condition developed as an allergic reaction to a newly prescribed medication. Stevens Johnson syndrome is known to cause painful blisters and skin damage that can spread rapidly throughout the body. In severe cases, it can also affect the eyes, mouth, and internal organs.
For Mellencamp, the symptoms quickly extended beyond her skin. She revealed that the sores appeared inside her mouth and around her eyes, making it extremely difficult for her to swallow.
Doctors admitted her to the hospital immediately to monitor her condition closely. Because Stevens Johnson syndrome can worsen suddenly even after showing signs of improvement, medical staff wanted to ensure the reaction did not escalate further.
Treatment began quickly, with doctors placing her on steroids and antibiotics to control the inflammation and prevent infection. Fortunately, Mellencamp said the treatment began to work after a few days.
Although the situation was frightening, she remained calm throughout the experience and relied on medical guidance to manage the crisis. Her doctors emphasized that careful monitoring was necessary because the illness can temporarily improve before worsening again.
After several days under hospital care, her condition stabilized enough for doctors to discharge her.
The Teddi Mellencamp hospitalized update comes amid her ongoing health challenges related to melanoma. The former reality TV star has been open with fans about her cancer journey, frequently sharing updates about treatments, surgeries, and emotional milestones.
Despite the recent hospitalization, Mellencamp said she was determined to return home in time for an important family moment. She shares three children with her ex husband Edwin Arroyave: daughters Slate and Dove and son Cruz.
Shortly after leaving the hospital, she managed to attend her youngest daughter’s birthday celebration. Although she admitted she was still feeling weak, the excitement of seeing her daughter celebrate helped lift her spirits.
She described feeling emotional but grateful to be present for the special day. According to Mellencamp, the energy from the celebration gave her a much needed boost after the difficult medical experience.
